‘stranger summer’ is a project spanning from the beginning of Covid-19 quarantine in March 2020 into the summer of on-going Black Lives Matter protests, with no vaccine in sight, the dreaded election around the corner, and winter nights only growing longer.
all photos are taken with an Olympus XA, and were part of my journey in developping and scanning my own 35mm film at home during the pandemic. These photos are an attempt at documenting the emptiness and isolation of Brooklyn while living here during the lockdown period.
while at first these photos were taken on trips to the grocery store or socially distant drives to the beach, the subject matter diversifies as protests began and new york government decided to begin “reopening” the city.
