‘stranger summer’ is a project spanning from the beginning of Covid-19 quarantine in March into the summer of on-going Black Lives Matter protests, with no vaccine in sight, the dreaded election around the corner, and winter nights only growing longer.

all photos are taken with an Olympus XA, and were part of my journey in developping and scanning my own 35mm film at home during the pandemic. these photos are an attempt at capturing the beauty of isolation in Brooklyn, NY, where I lived throughout quarantine.

while at first these photos were taken on trips to the grocery store or socially distant drives to the beach, the subject matter of these photos diversify as protests began and new york decided to begin “reopening.”
